Southampton will check on Lee
Barnard ahead of the Carling Cup
clash with Torquay.
The striker missed Saturday\'s
3-1 win over Leeds after
suffering an ankle injury in pre-
season but he is close to a
return.
Winger Alex Chamberlain (ankle)
and defender Radhi Jaidi (knee)
also sat out at the weekend and
will not be risked against the
League Two Gulls.
Boss Nigel Adkins is likely to
make changes so Belgian winger
Steve De Ridder, a substitute on
Saturday, could be handed his
full debut.
Lee Holmes, Dan Seabourne,
Danny Butterfield, Morgan
Schneiderlin and Richard
Chaplow may also be drafted
into the starting line-up and
Bartosz Bialkowski could get a
run-out in goal in place of Kelvin
Davis.
Torquay are without Billy Kee,
with the Northern Irishman
being called up for Under-21
duty.
The striker was substituted in
their season opener against
Burton, with the man replacing
him, Taiwo Atieno, likely to make
his first competitive start for
the Gulls.
Atieno impressed in pre-season,
scoring in matches against
Tiverton Town and Bristol City,
which convinced manager
Martin Ling to offer him a one-
year-deal.
Twenty-year-old Daniel
Leadbitter is in contention to
make his debut after recovering
from a hamstring complaint that
prevented his from making the
squad against Burton.
Leadbitter signed a two-year
contract following a summer
move from Newcastle, and is
looking to earn his first start in
the Torquay defence.
